The Transportation Advisory Committee contributes strategic input and advice to City Council and City staff on advancing a safe, multimodal, equitable, sustainable, complete, affordable transportation system.

Recommended by Guelph’s 2022 Transportation Master Plan (TMP), the Transportation Advisory Committee brings diverse public expertise, knowledge and interest from different road user groups and engages them in an ongoing dialogue that serves the entire community and reflects their transportation values and needs. Their mandate includes:
- Successful implementation of transportation plans and strategies, including, but not limited to:
     - Transportation Master Plan 2022 and associated policies, plans, initiatives and programs;
     - Guelph Transit Future Ready Action Plan 2021;
     - Guelph Transit Fare Strategy 2023;
     - 2012 Cycling Master Plan (and future updates);
     - Parking plans and policies;
     - Vision Zero Guelph - Action Plan for Safe Streets;
     - Downtown Parking Master Plan;
     - Other relevant transportation policies and master plans as published and utilized in the city.
- Planned or potential changes to transportation or parking strategies and planning;
- New technologies being considered, such as new vehicle types, service models, or regulatory tools;
- Improving safety for all road users and traffic operation;
- Development of the off-road trail network;
- Awareness and education of:
     - New strategies, programs, events;
     - Personal and community benefits of a multimodal transportation system.

Board Information

The Transportation Advisory Committee will meet monthly, as required, on the third Thursday of the month at 5:30 p.m., excluding August.

The length of meetings will typically not exceed two hours.

All meetings will be conducted in a hybrid format, where possible.

50 per cent + 1 of the currently appointed members, to a minimum of three members.

The Transportation Advisory Committee shall consist of 11 members appointed by Guelph City Council as per the Public Appointment Policy.

Committee members will bring a mix of lived and professional expertise, knowledge and interest to the Transportation Advisory Committee. In the interest of achieving an equitable and inclusive membership, the following characteristics are considered desirable for the committee’s composition:
- At least one member who has experience using a mobility device (wheelchair, scooter, walker etc.) and/or is a member of Guelph Transit’s paratransit Mobility Service;
- A diversity in experiences of using different modes of transportation, with at least three members who have experience with each of the following modes:
    - Walking
    - Cycling
    - Transit
    - Car
- Members with a professional engineering background;
- Members with a professional planning background;
- Representation from the University of Guelph Administration, University of Guelph Central Student Association, the Guelph and Wellington Task Force for Poverty Elimination (GWTFPE), Conestoga College, and consideration of other relevant community groups where possible.

The Transportation Advisory Committee’s composition should also reflect demographic diversity, including ethnicity, gender, disability, etc., to ensure that the committee's advice to City Council reflects Guelph's diverse community, with a focus on engaging those who are underrepresented in local policy making.
